Brazilian Butt Lift

A Brazilian Butt Lift (commonly known as BBL or buttock augmentation) is a surgical, body contouring procedure that uses fat transfer from donor sites to enlarge the size of your buttocks, aiming to create natural-looking results.

How is a Brazilian Butt Lift Performed?

A Brazilian Butt Lift involves three basic steps:

  1. Fat is removed from the hips, lower back, thighs, abdomen, and/or other areas with liposuction

  2. The extracted fat is purified and prepared for transfer

  3. One of our cosmetic surgeons injects fat into specific points on the buttocks to increase volume and improve shape

Am I a Good Candidate?

A Brazilian Butt Lift can be a great option to improve the shape and size of the buttocks; however, certain patients are better suited for the procedure, and it is important to have realistic expectations about the surgery, recovery, and results. In general, you are likely a good candidate for a Brazilian Butt Lift if you agree with the following:

  • You want a buttock augmentation without implants

  • You have adequate fat stored in other areas to harvest for injection into the buttocks

  • You are willing and able to avoid sitting directly on your buttocks for several weeks

BBL

The goal is to create more volume in the buttock area, which over time may be lacking volume due to genetics, dieting habits, and/or weight loss.

Why Should You Consider BBL

If you are feeling unhappy with your current butt shape, or tired of having a flat, unattractive buttock, the Brazilian Butt Lift may be the procedure you’ve been looking for. This procedure can also help restore a flat or sagging butt due to childbirth or weight loss. There are other benefits of the Brazilian Butt Liftwhich are the main reasons why this procedure is getting more and more popular.

Brazilian Butt Lift Surgery

The main principle of this procedure is removing the fat from other areas of the body, such as the abdomen, hips, or thighs. Fat taken from elsewhere in your body is injected into appropriate areas of your buttocks through small incisions, to create a firmer, plumper backside.

During the BBL procedure, the plastic surgeon makes a few small incisions in the buttock area to allow for the insertion of small tubes called cannulas. These cannulas are attached to a liposuction machine called tubing which will allow for the removal of fat in a sterile container. The fat that is removed is purified before transferring to the buttock.

The main fat donor sites include:

  • the backside or thighs

  • arms

  • the abdomen (stomach)

  • lower back

Ideal Candidates For Brazilian Butt Lift

This procedure can be an excellent option for reshaping your figure and making you appear slimmer and more curvaceous, but, during your initial consultation, you should discuss with Dr. Lefkovits whether it is the right buttock enlargement procedure for you.

You are an ideal candidate for the Brazilian Butt Lift if:

  • You have excess fat on your stomach, back, thighs, or other parts of the body

  • You have good blood flow to your buttock area

  • You are in good physical condition and good general health

  • You are a nonsmoker

  • You have realistic expectations

On the other side, you may not be a good candidate for BBL surgery if:

  • you are overweight or underweight

  • you are pregnant or breastfeeding

  • you have certain medical conditions (blood clotting disorder, for example), or take certain medications (anti-inflammatory, antibiotics, blood thinners…)

  • you are under 18 years old since your body is still developing

  • you should not consider BBL if you have unrealistic expectations about the results

Risks Following Brazilian Butt Lift Procedure

The Brazilian butt lift procedure is not without risk, but the risks are similar to those of other plastic surgery procedures – bruising, swelling, bleeding, pain and discomfort. This procedure can result in complications that require additional treatment or even more surgical procedures. However, most complications are minor and can be treated.

The risks could be minimized by choosing a qualified, experienced surgeon. Your board certified plastic surgeon will go over all of your options with you and help you determine how best to proceed with this type of surgery.
